Onyx Eyes is a German progressive/symphonic metal band founded in 2005.
Today, Onyx Eyes are: Sören Eyes (guitars), Marijana Mladenov (vocals) and Mehdi Heidari (drums).
The first album "Delights and Tears" was released in 2008 under the label Black Rain.
Musically, the album has a lot of experiments with the form of the song, harmony and key-changes and yet lot of familiar moments with the typical symphonic and gothic metal. The songs were written by Sören Eyes (the guitarist and main founder of the band), Ines Deinert (vocals) and Dennis Hartzsch (keys, vocals). On the rhythm guitar was Alex Senf, on the bass Martin Schüller and on the drums Jörg Meyer. With the release of the first album, the numerous concerts and the tour across Germany have followed, as well as performances at festivals like Wave Gothic Treffen.
For the second album "Dö", Onyx Eyes have parted ways with the Black Rain and the line up of the band has partly changed. The drummer Jörg Meyer and keyboardist Dennis Hartzsch have left the band and the drummer Josef Poldrack has joined. Couple of years have passed in searching for the right sound that the band was heading to, a so-called "stoner rock" combined with the already established symphonic/gothic metal sound. End of 2013 the band has finally finished the album "Dö", which has been released in 2014. After the album release the band has stopped performing due to Sören Eyes' health issues.
A long break has followed. At the end of 2020, Sören Eyes has started writing the new songs. The rest of the members have decided to leave the band though. As the founder and mastermind of the band, Sören has decided to continue the Onyx Eyes journey and look for the new members.
At the end of 2021, Marijana Mladenov has joined as the vocalist, composer and the lyricist. While Sören and Marijana were writing the songs and recording them one by one, finding the rest of the band wasn't an easy task.
A year later, Rouven Paul Haliti has joined the band with his fretless bass as a session musician.
Since the place of the drummer wasn't occupied yet, the band has hired the marvelous Krzysztof Klingbein beginning of 2023, as a studio drummer for the album.
Just a year later, Onyx Eyes has joined not less amazing Mehdi Heidari on a drum set, as a permanent member of the band.
After the first single "Beheaded Dragon", released in December 2023, "Tibet", "No Quarter", "Single Demons' Wig" and "Marian's Song" in 2024, more release dates and the album publishing date will be known soon.
The third studio album of Onyx Eyes will surely bring a new subgenre to the Symphonic metal. Apart from the classical and metal influence, the musical elements are expanding from the 70s rock guitars, across Serbian folklore to the Pop/Jazz style with the electro sounds.
